All supplies and services that the pharmacy provides through Medicare Part B require a written doctor's order. The order may be a prescription, or it may be on a special form called a "certificate of medical necessity" or CMN. This provides to Medicare confirmation that the doctor believes the product or service is needed. In some cases additional documentation is also required to demonstrate why that product or service is necessary.
