There is a huge difference between knowing what you should do and actually doing it! I know I shouldn’t eat cookies instead of dinner, but I admit that I have done this before. As I sit down and prop my feet up after work, I sometimes feel a twinge of guilt for not strapping on my running shoes and going for a jog. I know it would be good for my health, but I don’t always choose to do what is best for my health. Every honest person can relate to this. Nobody can do what is best for his or her health at all times. Every day is filled with choices.
Wise health choices do not just come from learning what decisions are best. They also include finding a way to make manageable changes that work into your lifestyle. When a person has diabetes, lifestyle choices make an even bigger difference. There is more at stake, but it is still just as difficult to make the healthy choice. In addition, there is more guilt involved because of the knowledge of what the consequences are. Guilt can be immobilizing.
Many programs exist to help educate people with diabetes. Few programs help people find a way to work the changes into their life. We believe this is the key to successfully gaining control of diabetes. This is why Bremo Diabetes Lifecare was created. The five-week series of Diabetes Education Sessions are designed to help people make healthy changes in their life. We do not simply tell people with diabetes about the disease, we help them find a way to work better choices into their life. If you or someone you know is in need of help getting better control of diabetes, call us at 285-8055 extension 135.
