Richmond Apothecaries Gives Back

For over thirty years the Richmond Apothecaries has strived to provide pharmacy service beyond comparison.  As a local business we also believe it is our duty to give back to the Richmond community that we serve and care about.  This section highlights a few of the ways in which the staff members at Bremo Pharmacy, Bremo LTC Pharmacy, and Bremo Pharmacy @ Henrico Doctors have come together to make a difference.

Celebrating Earth Day 2009 

In celebration of Earth Day, April 22, 2009 our staff reflected on the various actions we have taken over the past year to help our environment.  We also brainstormed for new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. We are proud of the progress we have made so far, and look forward to improvements in the future.   

Reduce & Reuse 

Bremo LTC Pharmacy installed a new paperless electronic faxing program that reduces the need for paper faxes and printer cartridges.

 

Our business office switched from bottled water to a water cooler, to reduce the use of disposable plastic water bottles. 

We began using a local manufacturer to purchase our cardboard shipping boxes.  By switching to a local company we reduced the amount of petroleum fuel used to transport our order, while also supporting our local economy! 

We reduce electricity use by turning unused equipment off each night. 

Recycle 

During 2008 Richmond Apothecaries saved 34 trees by recycling our shredded paper trash. We also recycle our retired computers, screens, and other equipment no longer in use.  Additionally we recycle our cans and bottles.

Bremo Pharmacy proudly offers TakeAway Environmental Return system.

In celebration of earth day, Bremo Pharmacy is now offering an ongoing free medication disposal program. Simply bring your unused or expired medications in their prescription bottles to Bremo Pharmacy and we will send them for proper disposal.

An estimated 250 million pounds of unused medications are improperly disposed of each year. Now you can make a difference by participation in the NCPA TakeAway Program – the safe, easy method to dispose of unused patient medications.

Protect your environment – Flushing or throwing away medications puts our waterways and aquatic life at risk.

The Bremo Bunch Walks the 2008 Diabetes Walk

Since the early 1980’s when Bremo Pharmacy became one of the first diabetes teaching centers for blood glucose monitors in Richmond, diabetes has been a special area of interest for us.  Today, through our Bremo Diabetes Lifecare Education program, our specialty line of diabetes shoes at Bremo Pharmacy, along with the diabetes screening and prescription services provided at all three of our pharmacies, our staff sees first hand how diabetes touches the lives of our patients.  Supporting the American Diabetes Association by participating in their Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes was a natural fit.  Clinical Coordinator, Michelle Thomas, PharmD, CDE motivated our staff to join the team and make healthy lifestyle changes, as they got ready for the 3 mile walk.  Led by team captain, Tana Kaefer, PharmD our 2008 team had 22 members and raised $2815.32.  The Bremo Bunch looks forward to its third year of participation in this great event on September 26, 2009.
